As the 2016 Summer Olympics are coming closer, the global spotlight moves to Rio. However, important sports competitions qualifying athletes for the quadrennial mega-event take place at home.
This summer the city of Grodno has hosted 2 sports events granting athletes the chance to present our country at the upcoming Olympics. At the National Weightlifting Championship, young athlete Pavel Khodasevich, student of the BNTU Sports and Technical Faculty, has overcome harsh competition in the category 85 kg and won the silver medal giving him the chance to participate in the Rio 2016 Olympics.
On June 23-25 Grodno has welcomed the participants of the National Athletics Competition. Irina Vaskovskaya, student of the BNTU International Institute of Distance Education (MIDO), has done her best and won the champion's title in triple jump. The convincing victory granted Irina a marvelous chance to compete in the coming Summer Olympics and assert her leadership once again.
